The Miami River Target Area (MRTA)
is an older marine and industrial area of approximately 100 acres lying just west of the
City of Miami's Central Business District. Despite the area's proximity to
Interstate 95 (I-95), the central business district, the Miami River, the Miami
International Airport, and the Orange Bowl Stadium, redevelopment of the area may have
been inhibited due to the possible perception of environmental contamination. The Miami River Brownfields Advisory Committee for Neighborhood Involvement
and Black & Veatch Special Projects Corporation have conducted an inventory of 106
commercial properties in the MRTA to determine which parcels may need further
environmental assessment.
